Avionik-History

Avionics from D-IBAM
until 2016

The D-IBAM came to me in 2015. At that time it had a conventional cockpit with mechanical round instruments. The avionics was expanded in two steps (2017 & 2020) to the current "glass cockpit" design.
The first conversion towards the glass cockpit took place in winter 2016/2017.

Remodeling 2016

In a first step, the analog "six pack" was replaced by a Garmin G600. The Com / Nav devices were replaced by one Garmin GTN750 and GTN650. The transponder was replaced by an L3 NGT-9000, which combines transponder, ADS-B In & Out and TAS in one device. Garmin was chosen as the audio system GMA 350c.
The analog engine monitoring instruments have been replaced by a EDM960 by JPI.
DME and weather radar remained on Avidyne EX500.
Now there were GPS approaches in particularno problem anymore. thanks Flightstream 510 the databases could be loaded from the iPad into avionics. (at least in theory)

Modification 2020

In 2019, the autopilot (still original and now over 40 years old) started to cause problems. In a cold front during an IFR approach to Stuttgart, it finally failed. The board reminded me of my youth when I made boards out of copper plates with black masking tape and a lot of acid in 1968.
At the same time, Garmin has just been approved for his GFC600 Autopilot received for the Cessna 340A. If that's not a sign of fate. :-)
As for the Autopilot anyway extensive conversion work was needed, this was the best time, too PFD and MFDs to bring it up to date.
A Flarm System should improve the visibility of and for gliders and hang gliders.

from 2020

The D-IBAM went back to maintenance in March 2020.
2 months later I was able to take over the new cockpit.
